UCSB Housing MAster Plan
Creating housing opportunities for a major university
UDA prepared a Housing Master Plan for UCSB, including a pattern book, architectural unit types, and building types to schematic design level for new development. In the course of its history, UCSB has acquired land and developed residential complexes, some of which are currently vacant or in need of redevelopment. The plan proposes revitalization strategies for existing neighborhoods and the construction of new neighborhoods located along a green river of natural conservation areas and open space amenities. The process included input from the university community in UDA's Campus Master Plan effort, which created principles of human-scaled streets, public spaces, and architecture constructed of unit types that could easily house students, faculty, and staff equally and interchangeably as needs change over time. All dwelling units were developed for outstanding views, operable windows, natural ventilation, and access to green space.
