A sustainable employment and makers hub centered around the reuse of an historic warehouse building
UDA is worked with Bridgeway Capital to grow employment opportunities in the Homewood neighborhood. Starting in 2013 Bridgeway Capital renovated a vacant 150,000 -sf Westinghouse warehouse building as an economic hub for urban manufacturing, craft businesses, and workforce training. The building has 24 tenants and employs more than 100 people. There is a focus on hands-on production and hiring from the neighborhood.
UDA led a community and stakeholder process to explore expanding the uses onto nearby vacant sites. Low-cost and flexible maker buildings create public space for residents to interact with the tenants and employees of the building.
