North Shore master plan
A transformation of parking lots into an urban entertainment district
In the 1990s, the North Shore consisted of a multi-use stadium in a large parking lot. Pittsburgh hired UDA to turn the area into a new mixed-use urban district with spectacular views of downtown Pittsburgh. Completed projects include football and baseball stadiums, a new riverfront park, an amphitheater, office buildings, hotels, restaurants, parking garages, and the extension of Pittsburgh’s light rail system with two new stops on the North Shore. The riverfront park extends the city trail network, a remarkable recreation system that links many neighborhoods with downtown.
