Businesses that were damaged in the 2020 uprisings following the murder of George Floyd come together to rebuild in a more equitable way
Walser Consulting, UDA, and Inspire To Change were selected by Longfellow Rising, a coalition of businesses impacted by the 2020 uprisings, to lead a six-month process to develop a shared vision for a small area. Downtown Longfellow is roughly two miles from where George Floyd was killed, but it sustained concentrated damage as buildings were burned adjacent to the Third Precinct Police Station. Many of the businesses are owned by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, particularly immigrants. UDA’s three-step process engaged over 150 property owners, business owners, neighborhood residents, non-profits, and institutions to develop a vision that is currently being implemented.
