East Liberty Station Transit-Oriented Development
Connecting a Town Center to Transit
Once a great city in and of itself, East Liberty was decimated by 1960s urban renewal. Following a 2001 Master Plan by UDA, Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood is seeing a remarkable resurgence. One of the key elements of the Master Plan was to capitalize on the East Busway BRT station, a critical link between Downtown Pittsburgh and the East End. In 2009, Pittsburgh Port Authority hired UDA to develop detailed alternatives for the site through a collaborative stakeholder process. The consensus plan was critical to the effort to secure a USDOT Tiger Grant.
