Downtown Norfolk revitalization
Three decades of strategic urban design consulting
In 1989, Downtown Norfolk was an empty, formidable place. UDA was selected as an urban design consultant to regrow the downtown to a 24-7 burgeoning center for the City and the region. For nearly 30 years, UDA’s process brought unprecedented collaboration between City departments to propose, design and develop interventions to revitalize downtown. New interventions included the Tidewater Community College downtown campus, light-rail lines, museums, streetscape improvements, and mixed-use development.
