Craylands
Course correcting a redevelopment effort
The Craylands Master Plan was created in 2007 by English Partnerships (now the Homes and Community Agency) for the regeneration of the council housing estate in the new town of Basildon. Swan Homes sought out UDA to refine the plan with residents and stakeholders in a dynamic and participatory engagement process to transform the architectural direction of the regeneration and reknit the community's fabric in subsequent phases. Drawing on regional precedents, the new master plan for the Craylands successfully integrates retained units, reestablishes an interconnected network of streets and parks, and creates a true center for the community.
